Mika Nyström, PhD FTC’s Project Scientist, Mika is a design consultant with world-class expertise in asynchronous circuit inventions and design methodology and microprocessor architecture, modeling and programming. He teaches computer programming at Caltech (CA) and is co-inventor and co-founder of Generation Capital (London, UK), a stock trading software company. Mika possesses specialized experience in mechanical engineering, small aircraft aviation, rotary engine technology, and various industrial designs.
Mika received his PhD in computer science from Caltech, where he also did his post-doctoral research. His MS in Mathematics degree was received from MIT. A pilot, engineer and a world traveler, Mika is fluent and familiar with several European languages.
Dr. Nystrom in 2005 came to Beijing for collaborations with Tsinghua University for Async China program lead by Prof. Henry Chen Hong Yi, the former head of the Microelectronics Institute. The project was for asynchronous low-power micro-controller in medical implant and insertion applications. The project was sponsored by Beijing Municipal Commission of Science and Technology. Since then he lectured multiple occasions in Async China program, made connections with China’s education community in the subject.
Dr. Nystrom is currently work at Intel, teaching at University of Southern California, and heads Education Sector of World Asynchronous Designs. He is a Swedish citizen and a US permanent resident, stationed in Pasadena, CA.
Grant Peng, PhD FTC’s Project Scientist is an accomplished technologist with extensive expertise in the semiconductor industry, specializing in processes, capital equipment, and metrology. Prior to his current role, he served as Physicist/Scientist and Director of Distinguished Members of Technical Staff at Applied Materials (AMAT), the largest semiconductor equipment company in the world
Dr. Peng made pivotal contributions during his tenure at AMAT, including developing a groundbreaking OLED chamber cleaning process at a customer site, which successfully revived AMAT’s OLED project and generated over $100 million in revenue in the same year. Additionally, he invented a novel technology to enhance the uniformity of PECVD/ALD thin films in both thickness and physical properties. This innovation opened a billion-dollar market for AMAT and resulted in 40 international patents and trademarks.
Dr. Peng earned his PhD in Chemistry from Utah State University and conducted post-doctoral research at Harvard University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Beijing University, China.
Before transitioning to science, Dr. Peng was a pioneering oil painter and founder of an avant-garde art group in China. In 1972, he held a private art exhibition showcasing his impressionism style of work. His early achievements in the arts demonstrate a unique blend of creativity and innovation, which continues to shape his contributions to science and technology.
Chien-Chic Chiang , PhD FTC’s Project Scientist stationed in Beijing/Shanghai. Dr. Chiang is a technological and business consultant stations in Shanghai and Beijing for recent years. His consulting knowledge is specially in laser technologies and FTPS/OLED fields that he pioneered in early stages.
Dr. Chiang came to the Mainland China in 2007. He hands-on planned and consulted several high-tech manufacture businesses with international advanced technologies: fields OLED panel, thin-film solar cell panel, computer touch pad pointing devices, LED substrate, Lithium power battery, vertical-axis wind-power generator, new technologies used in high-speed railway and train, Industrial 4.0 solutions, etc.
Dr. Chiang graduated fromTaiwan University for a PhD in Chemical Science. His R&D experts was in laser and spectrum analysis, had 20+ major international journal publishes. He was the founder of the startup of Univision in 1999. The new production company funded by VC grew into the world’s Top-3 PMOLED manufacture at its time. Dr. Chiang led the R&D team and sales team, and managed investor accounts. Tens of patents in precision manufactory process technologies were filed, by then this enabled the 2.2″ QCIF color PMOLE display panel, was the world’s largest then, supplying the world cell phone industry.
Dr. Chiang is currently a member of a glass formation company providing leading edge material formation for hand-hold electronics and automobile digital dashboard. He is the main co-inventor and chief writer of many related patents and know-how.
